High School Sports

For five years, I produced and reported human-interest segments on high school athletes for the weekly NBC10 & Cox Sports New England program, Varsity Life. Each week during the school year, I could be found at a Rhode Island high school interviewing and connecting with students, parents, teachers, coaches and administrators.

After producing her first video package on a girls hockey player that became a stroke survivor, I took a devoted interest in sharing stories that went beyond the stats and the sidelines. I actively sought out ways to highlight the people that were playing fall, winter and spring sports, quickly forging lasting relationships with coaches, principals and athletic directors across the state of Rhode Island.

I covered every sport and focused her efforts on the stories that I felt represented the true meaning of high school athletics, featuring not only the superstars but the team leaders that didn’t necessarily receive all of the playing time or the press.

Having the opportunity to grow and produce features for Varsity Life inspired me to forge my own creative path as a storyteller surrounded and supported by colleagues that share a similar vision.
